About Us
The Newman Association is part of a global movement to bring the Catholic faith and support to Catholic students to colleges and universities all over the world. Named after Blessed John Henry Newman, Penn State Behrend’s chapter of the Newman Association is committed to bringing opportunities for spiritual growth and faith development to students on campus through learning, prayer, fellowship, community service, and fun activities. All Newman activities are open to anyone looking to broaden their faith horizons, Catholic or otherwise.
Cardinal Newman lived in England in the 19th century, and one of his works was creating a society for Catholics that were attending Oxford University. Eventually named the Newman Society, other branches were established in his honor throughout the world. Newman Centers provide pastoral services and ministries to Catholics at non-Catholic universities. Cardinal Newman was beatified on Sept. 19, 2010 by Pope Benedict XVI, and is currently awaiting the final steps of the canonization process to become a saint.
